Trailer Talk: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (2014) + THE PURGE: ANARCHY (2014)
Months of speculation, raised eyebrows and full on public bathing in Haterade regarding Michael Bay’s live action adaptation of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES culminated today, with the release of the first Trailer! Despite the overused and formulaic ‘our city is in danger & needs heroes’ narration by the very cool William Fichtner, the ARGMAGEDDON style CGI text flying at the screen, this Trailer smacks you in the face with some very fast paced and full on reveal of our childhood memories in the form of the Turtles themselves. The Bay style humour is on full display, as is the techno-house, heart pounding deep bass background music. But the greatest thing about the Trailer, is that we see GREEN!! Leonardo doing a spinning flip and landing on his feet over a ledge. Rapheal being launched into a massive truck by Donatello while sliding down a snowy mountain side, striking it with his shell completely flipping it over. And Michaelangelo with his signature oblivious humour. I’m so sold! TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES releases August 8th, 2014.
After the very cool and minimalistic thriller / horror THE PURGE (my Review here), the sequel releases it’s first Trailer. While the first movie was small in scale, only showing violence on the streets through Closed Circuit feeds, focusing the action most inside the house of the family that gets attacked, THE PURGE: ANARCHY seems to switch it up, taking us through the streets, in the thick of all the happening. We see one guy, assumedly the main character played by Frank Grillo, intentionally going out into The Purge as it happens, with a plan in mind. What plan and why, remain a mystery. Instead, he seems to come across innocents that he saves and accumulates in a merry gang of people running around the streets trying to survive while all forms of crime happens around them, following Grillo as he goes to do… whatever he plans to do. It’s interesting because, it seems, instead of being a completely different movie about different characters, there is a thread that ties this to it’s predecessor THE PURGE. I won’t reveal what for Spoiler reasons. But check out the Trailer below and let me know what you think. THE PURGE: ANARCHY releases July 18th, 2014.
