Trailer Talk: DECEMBER 2014

Published by Shah Shahid on

It’s the last TRAILER TALK of the year and there are a hoard of movies that are releasing varying in genre from the dramatic, comedy and just utter fantastically awesome. Check out all the major releases of December 2014 below!

Releasing: December 5th, 2014

‘WILD’

Starring: Reese Witherspoon. Directed by: Jean-Marc-Vallee

Seems like yet another ‘discover yourself and face your problems as you leave society and wander the wild’ type of stories that’s becoming kind of common now. Although, this one seems like there’s a lot more at play and it’s the same director as ‘Dallas Buyers Club’, so maybe it won’t be that boring… maybe.

‘COMET’

Starring: Justin Long & Emily Rossum. Directed by: Sam Esmail

I have no idea what this movie is about, but I want to watch it. With abstract visuals and Justin Long giving what looks like an impressive performance, ‘Comet’ has shades of ‘Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind’ to it which makes this a very interesting movie to look forward to.

Releasing December 12th, 2014

‘INHERENT VICE’

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Jaquin Phoenix, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Eric Roberts & Martin Short.

Directed by: Paul Thomas Anderson

This may fast become a favourite of mine for this month, as it’s almost a throwback to the noir cinemas of ‘wrong place wrong time’ storytelling of a hapless loser. Jaoquin Phoenix leading an ensemble cast of the most unlikely actors in one movie… this is going to be good, even if it’s bad.

‘EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS’

Starring: Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley, Aaron Paul, Sigrouney Weaver & John Turturro.

Directed by: Ridley Scott.

The director of ‘Gladiator’ taking on a biblical epic with some of the most insane actors today and visuals that look breathtakingly stunning. Oh yea, I’m down.

‘TOP FIVE’

Starring: Adam Sandler, Rosario Dawson, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union, Jerry Seinfeld & Tracy Morgan.

Directed By: Chris Rock.

I’ll be honest: as much as I appreciate Chris Rock directing a (possibly meta) movie about a comedian losing the funny and wanting to be serious, this just doesn’t look that funny, despite being full of hilarious people. Here’s hoping it’s just the Trailer that sucks.

Releasing: December 19th, 2014

‘THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE 5 ARMIES’

Starring: Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ian McKellan, Lee Pace, Evangeline Lilly, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett, Manu Bennett, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Martin Freeman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Fry & Billy Connolly.

Directed by: Peter Jackson

The final chapter of ‘The Hobbit’ movies draws to a close, which means I can finally binge watch all three together!

‘ANNIE’

Starring: Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne & Bobby Cannavale.

Directed by: Will Gluck

The remake to the amazing classic is finally here after months of waiting, and it looks freakin’ delightful! Foxx & everyone involved, especially Annie herself looks to be quite the treat!

‘NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB’

Starring: Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Ben Kingsley, Steve Coogan & Ricky Gervais.

Directed by: Shawn Levy

If getting to see the late Robin Williams reprise his role of Teddy Roosevelt in this amazing fantastical movie for the whole family isn’t reason enough to watch this… I don’t know what is!

‘THE GAMBLER’

Starring: Jessica Lange, Mark Wahlberg, Brie Larson & John Goodman. Directed by: Rupert Wyatt

While the Red Band trailer made this movie look amazing, this trailer isn’t bad. Wahlberg is a good actor who picks (mostly) decent movies, and gambling films are always hell’a interesting.

Releasing: December 25th, 2014

‘BIG EYES’

Starring: Amy Adams & Christopher Waltz. Directed by: Tim  Burton

A weird movie from the master of weird, as creepy as this looks, it’s probably like one of Burton’s most ‘normal’est looking films. Also, the premise seems a little sexist.

‘AMERICAN SNIPER’ (limited release)

Starring: Bradley Cooper & Sienna Miller. Directed by: Clint Eastwood

Holy crap! Although the limited release trailer doesn’t show much, but it’s a great glimpse into the autonomy that US Snipers are given in the field, to make life or death decisions on the spot.

‘THE INTERVIEW’

Starring: Seth Rogen & James Franco. Directed by: Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg

Amidst international controversy, this silly and slapstick movie comes out on Christmas day, and I honestly can’t understand why. If there is anything more baffling than the plot of this movie, it’s the release date.

‘INTO THE WOODS’

Starring: Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick & Chris Pine.

Directed by: Rob Marshall

A mash up of the most classic of fairy tales comes to us with ‘Into The Woods’, and it looks a lot better than the Cinderella remake, whose trailer debuted recently. Featuring some amazing Disney princesses and character from stories, lore and fairy tales… this is looking like the most exciting release of Christmas day this year!

Surprisingly not any Christmas themed movies this year in December! Comment below and let me know which movie will you be checking out in theatres in December 2014?
