Split Screen News: BANG BANG to be official Bollywood remake of KNIGHT & DAY

Published by Shah Shahid on

The Split Screen feature on this site, while still in its infancy, is set to be a comparative look at films and adaptations with their source material. Given my fascination for Bollywood, mostly unauthorized remakes of Hollywood films will be compared with their original predecessors, like the first ever feature I’ve done, found here. So in keeping with that, today we take a look at news of a Bollywood movie, that is indeed an official remake of a Hollywood film, produced by the same studio.

2014, 21st Century Fox, Bang Bang, bollywood, Cameron Diaz, Fox Star Studios, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Knight And Day, Remake, Siddharth Anand, Tom Cruise

KNIGHT AND DAY was the Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz starring action-comedy that saw Cruise reprise his often done role of a slick and smooth secret agent man, with the slight twist of him being completely bat-shit crazy. It’s a quirky action comedy where Cameron Diaz’s characters get unexpectedly swept up with Cruise, and an adventure ensues. My full review of the entertaining comedy can be found here. Bollywood is looking to cash in on a similar whirlwind action entertainer concept with two major stars of their own. Hrithik Roshan will be (I assume) playing a role similar to that of Cruise, while Katrina Kaif tries to capture the ditziness of Cameron Diaz, which is inspired casting to say the least.

Based on Director Siddharth Anand’s other films, most recent of which was ANJAANA ANJAANI (My Review here) that boasted of a lot of wasted potential, BANG BANG promises to be a similar style of comedy mixed with action. Anand’s track record isn’t that great, with a list of films that defy logic and any semblance of cohesiveness, although the silver lining here would be the screenplay provided by Sujoy Ghosh, prolific director and writer of KAHAANI (My Review here) & Suresh Nair, who recently did the brilliant screenplay for D-DAY (My Review here). Based on this, and the inclusion of Hrithik Roshan, who is infamous for being picky with his films, BANG BANG will definitely be an anticipated film of 2014.

The Bollywood remake of KNIGHT AND DAY titled BANG BANG will see release on October 2nd, produced by Fox Star Studios, which is a subsidiary of 21st Century, distributers of the original Hollywood film as well. Are you looking forward to this remake?
