Split Screen: 1st Look Of The Bollywood Remake Of WARRIOR

Published by Shah Shahid on

Debutant Director of ‘Agneepath’ (2012) Karan Malhotra returns in another Karan Johar production, which happens to be another remake, but this time of a Hollywood movie, ‘Warrior‘. Similar to the original film, ‘Brothers‘ focuses on two brothers seemingly on a path that has them colliding with each other due to different circumstances. The first look was released a few days ago.

‘Warrior’ saw Joel Edgerton play an elder brother, a school teacher / family man, participating in a Fighting competition to make ends meet. While his younger brother was played by Tom Hardy, a disturbed war veteran being trained by their estranged father done awesomely by Nick Nolte, participating in the same competition.

‘Brothers’ casts Akshay Kumar & Siddharth Malhotra in the same roles, with the father being played by Jackie Shroff. I can’t think of a perfect casting for an Indianized Nick Nolte than Shroff as both actors parallel each others’ on and off screen careers. While Akshay Kumar is obviously a lot older than Siddharth, it’s natural that he would play the elder brother, sporting a salt and pepper stubble making the distinction that much more obvious. But in the poster he seems tattooed as well, which is something that Tom Hardy’s younger brother had in the original.

Unless ‘Brothers’ is playing fast and loose with the source material, the movie still looks very interesting, especially given that Mixed Martial Arts aren’t as common a sport in India as it is in America. So I’m looking forward to seeing how director Karan Malhotra adapts the concept. Malhotra’s ‘Agneepath’ was a great adaptation of a Bollywood film by the same name, a movie he wrote, while his wife adapts the screenplay for ‘Brothers’.

‘Brothers’ is a Dharma Production slated for release on August 14th, 2015.
