HERO (2015) Trailer: KAL HO NAA HO Director Remakes Subhash Ghai Film

Published by Shah Shahid on

Director of critically hit films likePatiala House‘ and ‘D-Day‘ introduces a debut couple in his new film simply titled ‘Hero’. A remake of the 1983 Subhash Ghai film by the same name, ‘Hero’ is an action romance about a street smart thug who falls in love with the girl he kidnaps for other reasons. The original ‘Hero‘ itself was remade in Telugu and Kannada, before spawning this Hindi language remake more than 30 years since the original. The 1983 Hero movie launched the careers of its lead actors, most notably Jackie Shroff who had gone on to make many other films with Subhash Ghai. The 2015 ‘Hero’ also launches a new couple, both star kids within the Bollywood industry; Sooraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi (‘Bodyguard‘) and Athiya Shetty, daughter of Suniel Shetty (‘Hera Pheri’). The full trailer for the movie released last week.

While Subhash Ghai films may not have the same clout it did on Bollywood a few decades ago, ‘Hero’ has behind it many other filmmakers whose involvement in the project is really what piques interest in this film. Being, what looks like, a very direct remake, ‘Hero’ is being produced by Salman Khan Films in association with Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts as well as Emmay Entertainment. Salman Khan himself has been promoting the launch of these two new actors, praising their work during the launch event of the Trailer.

‘Hero’ is directed by Nikhil Advani, who made his debut with ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, one of the better Shah Rukh Khan films of the last two decades. The filmmaker has gone on since to direct various genres of films, with varying levels of success, most recently being the spy-thriller ‘D-Day’, of which you can read my Review here. Advani has shown much talent in adapting others works, as ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ has always been said to have been a modern day interpretation of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s ‘Anand’; but also in creating original stories ranging from everything from, an animated film, a sports movie to an Asian Martial Arts inspired film. Given Advani’s previous works, as well has having co-writen ‘Hero’, it gives the film a much needed profile boost.

While the story of ‘Hero’ may not seem wholly original and the premise of a kidnapping victim falling in love with her would be kidnapper is not something that may appeal to audiences today, (despite the success of ‘Highway’) the makers behind the film, as well as the supporting cast make it something to look forward to. Tigmanshu Dhulia & Aditya Pancholi also feature in the film in intimidating roles, and given that the movie has been produced by Salman Khan, it wouldn’t be far from the realm of possibility for the the actor to feature in a cameo or promotional song appearance.

Hero releases September 11th, 2015. Starring Sooraj Pancholi, Athaiya Shetty, Tigmanu Dhulia & Aditya Pancholi; directed by Nikhil Advani.

Advani is a very technically proficient Director. One of the first Directors in Bollywood to shoot an entire movie with sync-sound.

Thanks for the comment Candice. Subscribe to the site if you want to stay updated. 🙂
