Bollywood Trailer Talk: NOVEMBER 2015 – Nostalgia & Familiarity On A Slow Month

Published by Shah Shahid on

Bollywood is having a slow month. Most of its blockbuster releases like ‘Dilwale‘ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ are awaiting release in December, so understandably November is very light. With some minor B-list movies that look atrocious, the most interesting ones are also some of the most awaited films. After ‘Shaandaar‘ bombing last month, expectations are high for two of the movies releasing this month.

So let’s take a look at the most interesting Bollywood movie releases for November 2015.

CHARLIE KAY CHAKKAR MEIN (November 6th, 2015)

The only star cast in this movie is Naseeruddin Shah, not counting some smaller character actors that will definitely be recognizable to audiences. The movie is about a grizzly murder, with only a video camera left behind as a clue to the events leading up to it, which are baffling the investigators.

While not looking like anything special, ‘Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein’ features some interesting elements that may be worth it to warrant a viewing. The movie seems to be essentially flashbacks of the activities of a group of friends, involved with¬†drugs and a whole lot of confusion. There also appears to be found footage style elements to the movie, which are never done well in Bollywood. So, let’s see if this movie leaves a mark.

PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO (November 12th, 2015)

If nostalgic family friendly movies are your thing this month, then look no further than the king of nauseating– I mean nostalgia-ting Bollywood films, Sooraj Barjatya. The movie, marking the first time Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor have worked together, is yet another grandiose family affair with Salman Khan actually playing a dual role.

The film seems to have all the typical commercial Bollywood flair, and is just as dizzyingly familiar to Barjatya’s other films. To prevent repeating myself, you can find my in depth trailer break down for ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ here.

TAMASHA (November 27th, 2015)

This is yet another familiar movie this month. The team behind ‘Rockstar‘, Director Imtiaz Ali, actor Ranbir Kapoor and composer A. R. Rahman reunite for ‘Tamasha’, which seems like an amalgamation of all of Ranbir’s previous films. A conformist man rebelling against society to find his purpose in life, meets a girl who changes it, but inevitably, drama ensues.

The movie is taking a lot of slack for reminding everyone of other movies like ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, and other Kapoor movies. Given his string of bad films lately, (‘Besharam’, Bombay Velvet’, ‘Roy’) Kapoor really needs this hit, and if anyone can provide, it’s going to be Imtiaz Ali, whose movie ‘Rockstar was arguably Ranbir’s best movie to date.

You can find my more in depth unpacking of the trailer here.

Which of these three movies are you most excited for this month?
