Trailer Talk: MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDHOLA (2013)
Holy crap!! So I just recently caught the multiple teasers and Theatrical Trailer for Vishal Bhardwaj’s next Directorial… MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDHOLA!
Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola
I love Vishal Bhardwaj. I’ve watched every more, and even if I don’t prefer them, they’re the most uniquest films made in Bollywood. After SAATH KHOON MAAF, Bhardwaj returns with this one, and it’s freakin’ awesome!!
You can always rely on Bhardwaj’s movies to take established ‘stars’ and portray them like we’ve never ever seen them before. And such is the case with Imran Khan in this one. It took the Trailer to come on TV 3 times, before I recognized who the hell this guy was. He’s completely unrecognizable as the titular Matru, sporting a full on beard and gruff rural look. Which is a huge leap from the typical candy floss, pretty boy roles he’s used to doing.
Imran Khan
Anushka Sharma is probably one of the stronger female actors of Bollywood these days. Despite only having done a handful of movies since her debut almost 5 years ago, she’s shown a maturity that some actresses don’t until a good 10 years into the Industry. From the Trailers , her role as Bijlee seems to be her most…. provocative role yet, as she’s display the entire range of her… umm, hotness. I’m not complaining.
Rounding out the trio from the title is Mandola which is played by the legendary character actor, Pankaj Kapur, father of Shahid Kapoor as… I don’t really know what.

check out Shabani Azmi there with him… the awesome-ness just keeps getting better…
So I have no idea WTF the story of this movie is about… at all. But honestly, I don’t care. Vishal Bhardwaj is one director, any movie of whose I will watch… unquestioningly. With him behind the camera, and these amazing actors in (what appears to be) crazy ass roles… MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA just became my most awaited movie of 2013!
i can’t wait….*Due to Technical Difficulties of Youtube being banned in Bangladesh (where I am) I was unable to post the Trailer with this post. Hence the crap loads of pictures. Feel free to ‘Youtube’ it yourselves. A Chocolate Chip cookie has been mailed to you in apology.*

Thanks for the comment. Bhardwaj’s movies, despite always being specific to regional Indian topics, have a certain universal style of storytelling.
Let me know what you think of this when its out.

wow, shahid. we are on one page here!! 🙂 you got some great pictures there. I love Anushka Sharma too. so spontaneous and uninhibited. a joy to watch her. And that’s Shahid Kapoor’s father? Shabana Azmi takes only on roles that interest her! She is fantastic. I just hope they will distribute the film here in the US. I’ll throw a sissy-fit if they won’t! 🙂

Hey Ina (I assume that’s your real name?) thanks for the comments. Yes, Pankaj Kapur is Shahid’s Dad. (He changed the spelling of his last name due to numerological reasons like many actors.)
They should distribute in the US considering Fox Star Studios in India is producing it.
